New record for Si based tandem solar cell

News Posted on 16 Nov, 2016 21:32

We are very excited about a new solar cell efficiency record which we have recently achieved with my team at Fraunhofer ISE. We used a conventional silicon solar cell and added 0.005 mm of GaInP and GaAs to form a tandem solar cell which converts sunlight into electricity at an efficiency of 30%. The best Si solar cell today converts sunlight at 26% efficiency. See press release here.
